I was asked today: "What would you do if you did not have to work?" First I had to wrap my mind around the reality of "I will never, not have to work"....but in the event someone left me a million dollars....I took a minute and imagined what I would do....
If I had a gazillion dollars I would probably give most of it away. Sad but true. I have lots of causes...but the question was.."if your bills were covered and you did not have to work, what would you do?"
I would take better care of my kids....spend more time with them and less time working and yelling at them to "hurry up". I would volunteer...split my time between the Edgewater Animal Shelter and the Coalition for the Homeless. That means my Mom might get another cat, and I might meet one more person to talk to in Dunkin Donuts. All in all it is kind of sad. I had no plans to travel to the Bahamas, buy big houses, or lay on the beach. I want the 70 cats in the shelter to have homes and I want to hang out with people who live behind the Walmart......what would you do?
Interesting post, Roxanne! We have to remember that off the top the government would automatically take half of it (which would support a lot of welfare programs, among other initiatives). Beyond that mandated donation, I would payoff all debt, bank most of it, make sure my extended family was taken care of, give to a few select charities, travel like crazy, buy a home on the beach, a vacation home back in Michigan, and then write whatever I want and spend time promoting vegetarianism, which will help end animal cruelty. Good question!
ReplyDeleteThat pesky government again...I keep trying to forget about them!
