McCharacters

McCharacters Music Cafe and Sports Bar has opened at the old Stella's Skyline location near the NSB Airport. Their original location is in Palm Coast and is apparently quite a popular place. Here's to hoping they can make this location work as no else has been able too. Last weekend I went by a few times back and forth to Daytona and it was quite busy. Their grand opening will be July 4th weekend. They carry the MLB baseball package and the UFC Fights. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been there....please comment or send me an email.

I have not been yet but my brother gave it a positive review. Great food and pleasant time for not too much money.

On another note, My brother and I maintain the grounds, so hopefully they do well. :)

My husband and I tried it last night, it was REALLY BAD!!! The steamed shrimp, was not fresh and served on ice with ice cold drawn butter. The hush puppies were ice cold and soaked in grease, and when I asked for fresh ones, they came slightly warm and soaked in grease. My salad had the most tastless strawberries and apples ever. My husbands burger was dry and over cooked and his fries were cold. The side of mayo was yellow, clumped and looded old. We actually paid for our meal, and went to Alberto's to fill our belly. The worse part was when I opened my silverware and it looked like I had already used it!! We did mention these things to the waitress, and all she could say was she was sorry. I'm sorry too, that I wasted $40. We won't be back. Brenda and Jeff Reschke, Oak Hill

My brother had tried to book a party at the resturant in New Symrna but the person would never move to where she could hear him, hte music was too loud. So when we showed up with our party of 25 they had no clue we were coming. They still said they could accomodate us and put us on the back lawn. We were told we would have 2 people serving our group but turned out to be only one and she gave great service to the end of the table drinking alcoholic drinks, but neglected our end of the table. It actually took my brother and I 30 minutes to get a soda and water with having to ask twice. We also had to wait an hour and a half for our food (btw my daughter left the restuarant and so we canceled her order) and when it came out the food was not even hot. When my brother talked to the manager about the food taking so long, the manager acted like he did not care. Later I talked to the GM and she told me she would discount everyones bills and take care of the bill for the "birthday girls" family. When the bills came out they tried to give us the bill for the "Birthday" family and was still charging us for the food we had cancelled. When I went back in to talk to the GM she had left the restaurant and instead of taking care of the bill for the "birthday" family she only discounted it 10%. Since she left I insisted to talk to her on the phone and she twisted everything around, why on earth would she leave without taking care of the problem at hand and making sure the issue was resolved and the families were happy? 3 hours later I got out of there and will never return there again. If anyone asks, I would NEVER recommend it.

A friend and I had a wonderful experience there on Saturday night. We ate a delicious meal on the back deck, while listening to live music. We then sipped our drinks in the back area, as we sat by the fire! They seemed to try very hard to please us. It has great food and atmosphere.

In response to Kim Pomars comment...to start they called the wrong restaurant to book their party so that is why we did not have their reservation! And we had a live band when they arrived so if it was too loud when they got there it was going to be too loud the whole visit! And as far as giving the birthday girl a free meal...she didnt order a meal, per "the birthday girl", she said she wasnt hungry, just wanted drinks. And what restaurant comps the entire families meal? Didnt you say you were all family???And a party of 25!? Please let me know what restaurant does that because my birthday is coming up and I would like my family of 32 to eat for free because the music is too loud. And 30 minutes for a water and a soda????As conversational as you have been in your complaint I highly doubt you waited 30 minutes for your soda and water!!!

Even their response to legit complaints are snarky. Tried it once,OMG!!!

Under new management now and you can see the obvious positive changes. New menu, new staff as well. Had a great time there Friday night. Worth another try if disappointed in the past.

i was a cook at mccharacters for about six months. The worst place I have ever worked. The food is not even what is listed on the menu for example the grouper is not grouper but actually catfish. The certified angus beef is nine out of ten times bought from the grocery store and definately isnt certified angus beef. This place definately does not run by the books or even by the rules and regulations. They treat their employees awful and most of the customers even worse. The management staff is a joke, none of them even know how to cook. The owner doesnt care about his employees just what he can get out of them. The black mold in the kitchen is very dangerous and they dont seem to think it is a problem or a concern them. Cover it up is their motto. I would not suggest this place to anyone and like I said I used to work there!!!!!!!
