Update on Aqua Park - Open House

Great news from Aqua Park in Edgewater! They have been able to repaint and refurbish the pool. They have repaired the heaters for both pools! All this with community help! Paint was donated at cost, local businesses subsidized the repairs and the City helped with the water. Their classes continue to be popular and with a number of new volunteers they are now open from 4:30 - 7:30 pm on weekdays and 12:00 - 4:00 pm on Saturday!

They are holding an Open House this Saturday:

Aqua Park Open House

Everybody is invited to come and swim in the pool which has been refurbished by local volunteers on behalf of the High School Swim Team.

Help Us Name the Dog

This is our newest addition....she was adopted this week from Orange County Animal Services. Why did we go to Orlando to adopt? (I took some heat over that one.) We have been looking for the perfect pup to join our Boss for quite some time. That is Boss below.....he came from Second Chance Rescue in Bunnell.

This little girl was 3 or 4 days away from being euthanized and there had been no interest in adopting her. She is a sweet, loving dog and I am happy to report she and the Boss man have hit it off.

She came with the name Leysa (she does not know it, she was a stray), my daughter wanted to name her Kaley, my son Coco. I like Coco...so, my wonderful readers, help us name the dog and win a prize package including a couple of gift cards to local restaurants! Go to my Facebook Page and leave a comment with whatever name pops in your mind.....My kids will pick the name they like and that is the winner! If none of them work I will draw randomly for a winner!

Have a great weekend! When looking for a pet please adopt a shelter pet....what shelter doesn't matter, you are saving a life!

National Women Build Week is May 5 -13

National Women Build Week is May 5-13
Location: 3039 Traveler’s Palm Dr., Edgewater

Date: Wednesday, May 7th
8:00a.m.-11:30 a.m.
12:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
No Experience Necessary! RSVP/ More information:  Coralie Gilson: 386-689-2939; coralieg@bellsouth.net

Women volunteers will raise their hammers, nail guns and paintbrushes at Habitat for Humanity construction sites across the country in recognition of National Women Build Week, May 5-13.

Now in its sixth year, National Women Build Week challenges women to devote at least one day to help create simple, decent and affordable housing in their local communities. Over 31,000 women volunteers from all 50 states have participated in the previous five events.

This year, we will help prepare a house for a local family in Edgewater, and promote recruitment of volunteer women from age 18 up to help support Habitat’s mission to create affordable housing. We will have a second women’s day later in the year, where we will assist in construction of a new home.

To date, women volunteers have helped construct more than 2000 Habitat houses nationwide. Locally, Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity has served more than 100 families, building 98 homes and rehabilitating others through “Brush with Kindness” and other home repair programs. Women have routinely contributed their time and talents to the work in our community and this year we are continuing this work by celebrating Mother’s day through a day of woman’s fellowship, working together to help provide a decent home and safe environment for a local family.

National Women Build Week is held the week leading up to Mother’s Day because of its significance to Habitat homeowners and volunteers. Families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children - one in six - live in poverty housing in the United States alone.

Ladies, please join us in our efforts. Put on your oldest clothes and sneakers, pick up your brushes and rollers, grab a pot of paint, and join your sisters in celebrating the Power of Women, giving back to families in need in our own community.
