Sail Camp in NSB

Hard to believe it is time to start thinking about Summer Camps but here it is.....

The NSB Park & Recreation Department is hosting the annual Sail Camp. It starts June 9th and there are two week long sessions. One on June 9th-13th and one June 23rd-June 27th. They are held at the NSB Yacht Club located at 1201 S. Riverside Drive.

Yacht Club members will teach students from age 12-20 to sail without assistance. The lessons will include hands on training, terminology, winds, currents, safety precautions and much more.

Class size is limited and the cost is $150.00 for NSB residents and $155.00 for non-residents. Go into the Parks & Rec Department at 1000 Live Oak Street to register or go online here.

Chili Cook-Off

The First Annual Chili Cook Off will be held on Saturday, April 5th and Hawk's Park. The feeding frenzy starts at 12 noon and runs until 5:00 pm. This shindig is sponsored by the Rotary Club & the City of Edgewater. Proceeds will go to the Animal Shelter. There will be 60 awesome chili recipes there to sample, all for $10.00. There will be a Beer Garden and entertainment. This will be a good (and delicious) time for a great cause!

Friday Night Market with a Bunny

This Friday, April 4th in Hawk's Park....there will be all kinds of vendors, food, and Easter Egg hunt and stay around for the Movie in the Park - Frozen...Looks like a great family event for all ages!

Balloon & Skyfest

The Balloon and Skyfest is this weekend! Starting with a Balloon Glow on Friday night. There will be hot air balloon rides, airplane rides, and helicopter rides. A carnival, food and entertainment. Check their website for a full list of events!

Luna Bella Ristorante

Have you been to Luna Bella Ristorante? It is an excellent little Italian Restaurant in Venetian Bay. It took my blond self a minute to figure it out at first, you park in the big parking lot and walk around past the condos and the pool to the front of the restaurant in the Town Center. It sits right on the big lake with the fountain, gorgeous place to sit and have a glass of wine or even dinner when our weather cooperates.

The proprietor is a lovely lady named Jane, who took over not too long ago and has hand picked her staff. The Chef is incredible and the service is excellent! I have sampled the Calamari, Pasta Alfredo, Chicken Piccata, Pasta Fagioli, all the salads, Cheese Calzone and the straight up Spaghetti and Meatballs. It as all delicious. A special mention to the Alfredo and the soup. I have had none better anywhere!!! I was told tonight when I stopped in for a to go order that the pizza is fantastic also!

They have an extensive wine list and a truckload of specialty martinis. They cook everything from scratch so you will not get it in 10 minutes, but it is truly worth the wait!

Spring Fling

The Hub on Canal is holding a very cool family event this Friday, March 21st. This looks like a fun way to kick off Spring Break without breaking the bank. It is from 5-8 p.m. It is free if you are a member of the Hub, $5.00 for non members and children under 12 are free!  There will be all kinds of activities, food and entertainment. Face painting, a photo booth, dancing and all of these are free once you go in. Should be a nice time with the kids!

City of NSB Recreation Classes

The City of NSB has shared the following recreation classes with us to pass on to you!

Hatha Yoga

Promote balance of body, mind and breath with Hatha yoga classes from 6:30-8 p.m., April 8-June 26. Classes for beginners are on Tuesdays.  Advanced classes are on Thursdays at the New Smyrna Woman’s Club, 403 Magnolia St., New Smyrna Beach. Easy does it Yoga

Designed specifically for seniors, Easy does it Yoga follows the principles of Hatha Yoga. Classes are from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Dr., New Smyrna Beach. The cost of a 12-week session is $62 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Sessions run continuously. For more information, please call (386) 424-2175.

Tai Chi

Learn the basic movements of Tai Chi, which are linked together to create a continuous moving meditative exercise. Proper posture, breathing and meditative principles will be covered. B Tai Chi and Qigong for Health classes are held from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesdays.  Tai Chi, Qigong and Weapons are offered from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays on the east side of the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Dr., New Smyrna Beach. The cost for residents is $7 per class or $24 per month. Line Dance

Beginning and intermediate line dancers may enjoy classes offered three days a week. Line dance classes are held from 6:30-9 p.m. Mondays and 9 -11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the New Smyrna Woman’s Club, 403 Magnolia St., New Smyrna Beach.  Classes also are held from 9 a.m.-11:30a.m. Fridays at the Coronado Civic Center, 150 Pine Street. Each class runs continuously. Dancers may come and go as desired during the class. The first hour is for beginners followed by up to 30 minutes of review or open dance time. The last hour of class is geared for the intermediate dancer. The cost is $4 per class for residents or $5 for non-residents. For more information, please call (386) 424-2175.

Baton Twirling/Pom classes

Baton twirling and pom classes are held from 3-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the New Smyrna Beach City Gym, 1000 Live Oak St., New Smyrna Beach. The monthly cost is $36 for residents and $41 for non-residents. Ages 7 and up are welcome. For more information, please call (386) 424-2175.

Fitness Boot Camp

Join a four-week program to help achieve your fitness goals. Total Transformation Fitness Boot Camp works on core conditioning, muscular strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. The program challenges all fitness levels and abilities. Participants may choose any combination of three days each week. Early morning classes are 6-6:55 a.m., Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Late morning classes are from 9-9:55 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The monthly cost is $150 for residents or $158 for non-residents. Single classes are offered for $13.50. Edgewater Riverfest

The Edgewater Riverfest is this weekend! It is 3 days of fun along the river. There will be carnival rides, plenty of food and a business expo. There will be entertainment, kayaking, stand up paddle board and the 3rd annual "Tug Boat Race". Check the website for full details.

Drive 4UR School

Easy way to earn money for New Smyrna Beach High School! Come out to the School next Saturday, March 15th between the hours of 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. For every person who comes out and test drives a vehicle, Mullinax and Ford will donate $20.00 to the School. If 400 people come out the school makes $8,000.

In addition if you mark down the program you want to support your $20.00 will go straight to that program...so support the Band, the Baseball team, the Volleyball team, the Track team whatever you want!

There will also be a car wash, blood pressure checks and food. It only takes a few minutes and can make a big difference for our kids!
