Around Town-Weekend Events

Love the long weekend! What is happening this weekend? There is plenty to do around town, I will be enjoying a little yard work....

Friday night the Food Truck Bazaar is back on Flagler Avenue. The gourmet convey will be serving all kinds of tasty treats from 5pm-8:30pm. Park at the city boat launch and take the shuttle over to Flagler and avoid the traffic.

Saturday morning the Farmer's Markets will be at Hawk's Park in Edgewater, Norwood's on Beachside and Sam's Ave near Old Fort Park in downtown NSB.

The first Saturday Art Stroll is Saturday on Canal Street and the Douglas Street Art District. This monthly event runs from 10am-4pm on Canal and Douglas Street from 4pm-8pm.

The NSB Fire Department will be conducting their "Fill the Boot" campaign to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. As you travel around the city on Saturday and Sunday drop your change in the boot as you pass by our local firemen at various intersections.

The NSB American Legion Post 17 on W. Canal Street will be holding an Open House this weekend. The fun starts with a fish fry on Friday night from 5pm-7pm. The post will be open from 10am-10pm daily over the long weekend for residents to drop in and learn more about their programs. The kitchen will be open.

Many of the restaurants and bars on Flagler have entertainment going on all weekend. The weather is going to be beautiful, the beaches are gorgeous! Get out and enjoy it.

Florida Coupon Savers Class

Ever wonder what the big deal about using coupons is? It is much bigger than saving 50 cents here and there....I was one who once in a while used a random coupon for dog food and what not. I am a coupon convert, saving $50 or more a week with my stash. There is a method and a system to consistently saving money with coupons.

Florida Coupon Savers is sponsoring a free Real World Couponing Class at 9:00am, September 8th at the Piggotte Center, 504 Big Tree Rd., South Daytona. Their is no charge for this class and it will be taught by the owners of the website Florida Coupon Savers. Coffee and donuts will be provided as well as a raffle.

In this class you will not only learn how to match up sales with coupons, but also where to find coupons, store policies, coupon lingo and how to make the most of the deals to fit your needs. I took a similar class and it made a huge difference. Immediately following the class there will be a coupon exchange, so bring your unwanted coupons and trade them for the ones you need!

Space is limited for this class. Register by emailing contact@floridacouponsavers.com.

Noblo Beach Umbrella Buddy

This interesting looking bag is the latest genius idea for the beach. I received one of these at the end of last summer and never got around to trying it out. Last weekend I ran across it and decided to give it a whirl.

The idea is simple (and smart) you take the bag to the beach, fill it with sand and attach it to your umbrella. It holds the umbrella in place..day is over dump the sand fold it up go home. Sounds easy, and it is....I tried it in pretty good winds and my umbrella stayed right in place.

Check it out on Noblo's website. They are only $15.00 and worth every penny if you love the beach, need some shade. I love to run over to the beach for an hour or two and don't want to drag out the big tent. This is the perfect alternative.

R.B.I. Cudas River Run/Walk 5K

Speaking of Baseball (we were speaking of it I think), the R.B.I. Cudas Baseball Association is holding a 5K Run/Walk to support their youth baseball programs and scholarship fund.

The R.B.I. Cudas is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that supports local youth baseball, acts as the booster club for the New Smyrna Beach High School Baseball team and offers scholarships to graduating seniors who exhibit good grades, sportsmanship and support their community. Five 2012 graduates each received scholarships this year. $2500.00 was awarded the first year!

The R.B.I. Cudas rely on a couple of fundraisers a year, a spring golf tournament, a sponsor drive in the winter, a rummage sale and now a fall 5K.

If you are a business and would like to support your local athletes you can grab a Sponsor Packet.

If you would like to run here is a Registration Form.

Online Registration is also available.

If you need more information or would like to showcase your business at the event (vendor booths are only $25.00) contact the Cudas at info@rbicudas.org.
