Bat with the Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs have kicked off a raffle for a chance to join the team during Batting Practice! Chances are $5 each and you can purchase tickets at Fan Services through Aug 1st.

The money raised through the raffle will benefit one of the Cubs Game Day employees, Chad Russell.  Chad started with the Cubs last season and worked at the gates passing out programs to the fans.  He has Cerebral Palsy and was confined to a wheelchair and had to use sign language to communicate.  But by no means did that curb his enthusiasm. Chad’s helpers and Mom always shared stories about how much he looked forward to working the games and earning the extra spending money.

Early in this season, Chad went from working a Saturday game to being admitted in the hospital with severe medical issues.  Chad was admitted to ICU and is still there. He has made many small improvements but is now being transferred to Shands in Gainesville for further treatment. The Daytona Cubs want to help this member of their family as much of Chad's treatment is not covered by insurance.

So grab a chance to bat with the Cubs and help someone at the same time!

Slacker

Somehow I missed Father's Day.....I am a slacker. Last week went by in a blur, so much for my theory that when school got out I would have all kinds of time.....on to Father's Day. I have mixed feelings about Father's Day. I love my Dad, that is him above with the famous Marco. Who we still have in direct relation to the fact that the man standing next to him LOVES his granddaughter. He is a money pit and ole Grandpa often picks up the tab.

Back to Father's Day, love my Dad, love my brother, who often steps in as "Uncle Rick", and helps out with the kiddies. Yesterday my son and I went to my parents with Uncle Rick for Father's Day, had lunch, nice peaceful day.

Then I took that same son to the batting cages. He was the only kid there with his mother on Father's Day. This was not an issue for him...at all. This is his normal. It pissed me off.

On the way home I said, "Curt, did you call your Dad?" I got "the look" as I call it. It is the "are you a complete and total moron Mom look". If you have a teenager you have seen it. "Sooooo", I said "guessing that is a NO." He gave me the look again and said "maybe I will text him in a couple days and say hey I forgot to call you....kind of like my birthday and Christmas."

Being me of course I could not just DROP IT. So I said, "Curt, are you upset?" He says, "no Mom, I am done with all that, YOU are upset, I like hanging out with my Mom on Father's Day."

Love Curt, still don't like Father's Day......back to our normal programming tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Curtism

I was driving my son to his baseball game this afternoon and we were chatting about various topics, his batting average (not so great), his FCAT Scores (awesome), his birthday that just passed (14, where did the freakin time go), his father (a subject for another day) and the weather. At one point I really did not think he was paying any attention to me so I asked him if he was listening. "yes Mom, I heard you." So I said, "so, what do you think?" He gave me this goofy look (he will flip if he sees I posted that picture)

and said....."Mom, you worry too much, I get that is your job but toooo much." I replied, "maybe you should be a tad more concerned." He said....."I am not going to worry about things that don't need worrying about."

I was silent (this is rare) I had to mull that one over for a little while. Then I asked him "what do you mean?" He said "Things you can't change don't need worrying about, so lets not worry about things that don't need worrying about."

Now I just have to do it.
