No Money for Subs?

It is no secret our schools are woefully underfunded and teachers are working with nothing. Rick Scott seems determined to finish the destruction of the school system in Florida.

Having said all that....did you know that NSB Middle School has "run out of money" for substitute teachers. So if your child's teacher is out, and it is PE, Music, Art or any other elective they are combining classes and nothing is being taught. For example...this week, 3 classes were combined into one and one substitute had roughly 90 kids in the auditorium to watch a movie on natural disasters. Some kids saw it twice.....one teacher I spoke to (who asked to remain anonymous) said that the regular classes are also being affected. Not sure about you but I am really not okay with this. I emailed the principal tonight to see what type of answer I get and I will keep an open mind until he answers me....what are your thoughts?

The fabulous picture above is the HPCS Middle School in Holland Patent, NY. That is the school my brothers and I attended and the public school system my father taught at for 30 years.

Easter Celebration at the Green Market

Join the folks at the Green Market at the Pavilion in Port Orange tomorrow for their first Easter egg hunt. It will take place throughout the entire market for kids ages 1-10 from 9:00am-1:00pm. In order to keep the egg hunt green, participants will search for 10 empty eggs around the market to be redeemed for a goodie bag at the Floridian View tent. That way the eggs don't go to waste and can be reused every year! Lots of fun with less waste!

They will have Intro to Yoga with Joy from NBalance at 8:30 and Yoga for Kids at 10:30. There will be playtime with the Little Gym at 10. Don't forget to stop by the Michael's table to decorate a sand pail to collect your eggs in! The Port Orange Hollywood movies will also be giving away great prizes including free passes!

As always the Green Market offers the freshest local and organic produce, top notch vendors, live music, and delicious gourmet brunch including free-range omelets, organic waffles, organic lemonade & mimosas!

Sounds like a great time!

What Would You Do?

I was asked today: "What would you do if you did not have to work?" First I had to wrap my mind around the reality of "I will never, not have to work"....but in the event someone left me a million dollars....I took a minute and imagined what I would do....

If I had a gazillion dollars I would probably give most of it away. Sad but true. I have lots of causes...but the question was.."if your bills were covered and you did not have to work, what would you do?"

I would take better care of my kids....spend more time with them and less time working and yelling at them to "hurry up". I would volunteer...split my time between the Edgewater Animal Shelter and the Coalition for the Homeless. That means my Mom might get another cat, and I might meet one more person to talk to in Dunkin Donuts. All in all it is kind of sad. I had no plans to travel to the Bahamas, buy big houses, or lay on the beach. I want the 70 cats in the shelter to have homes and I want to hang out with people who live behind the Walmart......what would you do?

If you are looking for a great workout I hear Zumba is the way to go. I have several friends who love Zumba, I however am afraid that I would fall down and embarrass myself. Actually, I am sure I would have some serious mishap were I to attempt these classes. Vanessa teaches Zumba at both the NSB Athletic Club and Edgewater Fitness Center. You can meet Vanessa and get her full class schedule here.

Once you attend a class please let me know how you like it!
