VCSO Drug Take Back Day

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office will hold their prescription drug take back day on Saturday, September 27th. The press release is below:

Since its launch in 2010, a series of national prescription drug take-back events have resulted in nearly 125,000 pounds of unwanted drugs being taken out of circulation in Florida and safely discarded. The numbers will increase this Saturday with the next take-back event, as residents get ready to clean out their medicine cabinets and get rid of unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs.

On Saturday, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will join with law enforcement agencies around the country in a national drug take-back event. The Sheriff’s Office will be manning five drop-off sites throughout the county. The events are coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) as part of a national effort to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means for the public to voluntarily dispose of unwanted prescription drugs while also educating residents about the potential for abuse of these medications. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

The Sheriff’s Office’s drop-off sites on Saturday will be located at the agency’s district headquarters in DeLand, Deltona, DeBary, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach. The sites will open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. And for those who miss Saturday’s event, the Sheriff’s Office offers a continuous program where residents can drop off their unwanted prescription drugs at a district office or make arrangements to have a deputy pick up their unwanted prescription medicine by calling the Sheriff’s Office’s Communications Center. Saturday’s event is free and anonymous. The Sheriff’s Office’s drop-off sites will be at the following locations:

1706 S. Woodland Blvd., DeLand
1691 Providence Blvd., Deltona
94 S. U.S. Highway 17-92, DeBary
1435 U.S. Highway 1, Suite D-3, Ormond Beach
101 E. Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach

Avallone Law, PA

Happy Friday! There is a new law firm in town and while I hope you never need them, it is always good to be prepared. Larry Avallone is a former Volusia County Sheriff's Deputy and is also a former Prosecutor. He has vast knowledge of how the legal system works and is uniquely qualified to help if you or a loved one gets in a little trouble. Larry also practices family law and personal injury.

I am personally acquainted with Larry and find him to be very warm and genuine, He truly cares about his clients and helping them achieve the best possible outcome no matter what the circumstances. You can find his Facebook Page here. I recommend filing his number away in your phone in case of that speeding ticket or other mishap that might require a call to an attorney, He is available 24 hours a day and you can sit down and chat with him for free.

He is located at 399 Canal Street, Suite 5

Support the Cudas

It is that time of year again! Golf Tournament time! The 4th Annual RBI Cudas Golf Tournament is October 11th at Hidden Lakes Golf Club. Now more than ever the baseball team needs support. I am sure many of you have read about the challenges the city is facing at the Sports Complex.(I have some links at the end of this post if you would like to check it out.)

So to put it quite simply, the teams using the sports complex need to be self sufficient. Baseball has always done a pretty good job, we maintain our own field,(with volunteers) we have purchased and secured our own storage at the baseball field, replaced water fountains in the dugouts (that did not work for two years) and now we are replacing the batting cages and bullpens with state of the art covered and lighted facilities. There is no facility in the area for our boys to hit or pitch, there was one in Port Orange that has closed and the next closest is in Ormond Beach.

So in addition to our normal operating expenses, baseballs, uniforms, equipment and scholarships we now have construction expenses. The proceeds from this golf tournament go directly to that effort as well as the scholarship fund. In three years the RBI Cudas have given nearly $10,000 in scholarships to NSBHS graduating seniors.

So, I am asking for your help. Do you golf? Can you or your business be a sponsor? Would you donate a silent auction item or a door prize? If you can help us please contact me at info@newsmyrnabeachmom.com or at info@rbicudas.org. You can also contact Robert Schwab at Hidden Lakes Golf Club at 386-314-1909.

Click here to download the flyer and check out all the sponsorship opportunities.

This is a great way to showcase your business in a positive light and support the kids!

Thank you!

100 Happy Days

So I was reading a magazine today. I never really have time for that, but today I sat down and did it. It was kind of fun. In this magazine I found an article about the 100 Happy Days Challenge. So I thought to myself...I can do that. Then I read how 71% of the people who started did not finish. Hmmmm. I am going to give it a whirl starting tomorrow...so if you see random pics on my Facebook and Twitter accounts with the hashtag #100happydays, you know why. Join me if you like, it might be eye opening and maybe enjoyable!

Labor Day

School starting, Labor Day...the real start of the new year for many of us. The start of my favorite season...Fall. The crowds disappear, lines are gone, Publix is pleasant again on Saturday afternoon...

Labor Day until Thanksgiving is my very favorite time of year..

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend and we all have a wonderful Fall!
