Cudas Holiday Store

After you are done munching on turkey and all that goes with it. Take a few minutes and head over to your closet, garage, jewelry box, wherever you have stuff to get rid of.

Did you know that there is a Cuda Holiday Store? Loretta Devine and Laura Cloer (both employees at NSB High) started the Cuda Holiday Store several years ago. Sue Who and Sun Magic Beachwear, both located on Flagler Avenue are huge supporters and sponsors of this effort year after year.

Here is how it works..They actually set up a store in one of the classrooms, it is staffed by students for students. Any low income or student who needs help can shop in the store for holiday gifts for their family, or whoever they live with.  Many of our children who need help are not living with parents or family. Students can shop (free) for what they want to give and then take it to the wrapping table, students will gift wrap their “purchases” right there and they are ready for the holidays!

Where do they get the stuff? Donations. They take in anything…clean, gently used clothing & shoes for all ages, books, toiletry items, jewelry, purses, wallets, new and gently used toys. Wrapping paper, tape, gift boxes, tags and bows.

How can you help? The store opens right after the Thanksgiving break so get busy and clean out your closets, your book shelves, your gift wrap and your jewelry box. Grab an extra bottle of perfume or lotion at the store, pick up an extra toy or gift card when you are shopping.  Something very small will mean so much to someone who will not be able to give a gift otherwise.

What happens to items not used as gifts? Everything is recycled or donated. Broken jewelry goes to the art department, clothing that can be used goes to the drama department, toys and other items are donated to local social agencies in our community.

You can drop off your donations at the high school in NSB or shoot me an email and I will make arrangements for pick up. If you need more information contact Laura Cloer at the New Smyrna Beach High School at 386-4242555 ext. 38639
