Cracker Creek's Pirate Cruise: Featuring the Pirates of Spruce Creek, cruises are held at 1 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday at 1795 Taylor Road, Port Orange. Costumed pirates create a live, interactive experience as young buccaneers learn navigation, pirate weaponry, knotting or rope tying and pirate lingo, all the while searching for the lost treasure at Spruce Creek. Also, the Snow White Cottage, a near-replica as seen in the 1937 Walt Disney animated classic "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," is located on the Gamble property. Canoe and kayak launch and rentals, guided eco-history Pontoon boat tours and golf cart tours of the conservation nature trails also are available. Saturday, April 18th is Project Earth Day: Peace & Environmental festival from 10am-4pm at the United Church of Christ, 203 Washington Street, New Smyrna Beach. Free admission! Fun for all ages! Food, live entertainment, music, fair trade goods, yoga, massage chairs, peace, environmental and wellness exhibits. Children’s activities featuring Rae Rae the red panda from the PBS series Enviropals. Balloon animals, face painting, and a magic show.
This event is a benefit for Volusia PeaceCenter and the Marine Discovery Center.
St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church is holding a gourmet dinner on Friday to benefit Lydia’s Mission, the outreach program providing direct and consultative advocacy services to seniors in the New Smyrna Beach community. Seatings at 6:00 or 7:00pm. Tickets are $30 per person. Free child care available. Tickets may be purchased by calling the church office Monday-Thursday, 9am-1pm, 386-428-7383.
Meals on Wheels Walk The Council on Aging will be celebrating and fundraising for the Meals on Wheels Program and associated services with a WALKathon. This fun event will take place Friday, April 17th at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach at 10:00am. This event includes a short walk, a fun picnic with hot dogs, hamburgers, music and a round of door prizes provided by generous area merchants. Special this year will be dance performances by the troop from the Dance Factory. These “dancing girls” will bring both tears and laughter to all who attend. They would like a big show of support for this event.
