Around Town~Weekend Events



Plenty to do this weekend, it will be cold, but get out there and support your local business!

The Seaside Balloon Fest starts tomorrow.

The New Smyrna Beach Barracuda Marching Band will hold a rummage sale from 8am-3pm on Friday and Saturday, January 8th and January 9th at A+ mini storage, 333 W. Marion Ave. All proceeds benefit the band!

The Farmer's Market will be open on Canal Street at 730am on Saturday.

The Marine Resources Council is offering a free class on whale watching and protecting Right Whales. It will be held Sunday, Jan. 10, at the NSB Library at 1001 S. Dixie Freeway. It runs from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Call (888) 97-WHALE for more information.

The Wine Warehouse in New Smyrna Beach, in the plaza next to Beachside Tavern, holds wine tastings every Friday evening from 4pm-7pm. Six wines are tasted.

East Coast Cruiser Night is Saturday from 4-8pm on Canal Street.

The Little Theatre is presenting Run For Your Wife starting this weekend evening shows are at 8pm and the Sunday Matinee is at 2pm.

Around Town~Weekend Events

Plenty to do this weekend at the beach and around the area:

Oliver!


The Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach is presenting Oliver! based on Charles Dickens’s well known Oliver Twist. This production is sponsored by the Little Theatre’s WonderLand Theatre Company.

Reserved seating is available for purchase at the Box Office by calling (386) 423-1246 or by visiting in person. Tickets are $18 for adults, $17 for seniors and $9 for students under 18. The Box Office is open weekdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and two hours before each performance.

Jalapeno Open

Join the folks from Clancy’s at Hidden Lakes Golf Course on Nov. 21, beginning at 8 a.m for the Jalapeno Open. The format is a two person scramble. Gulf Atlantic Vehicles and Malibu East Motorcars are the hole in one sponsors again this year.

Open Hangar Day

American Aero Services, 333 South Street, New Smyrna Beach Airport will house an Open Hangar Day on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. WWII Bombers and fighter aircraft will be on display.

Please bring a pet food donation for the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. Food and drinks will be sold to benefit the museum. Visit Timeless Wings and Wheels for more information.

Bake Sale and Auction

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 285 Edgewater, Inc. will be hosting their annual bake sale auction to raise money for two nursing scholarships on Saturday Nov.21. A variety of baked goods will be available for sale. This event will begin at 2 p.m., and ends at 5 p.m. or whenever we sell the last item. Come in and bid for your favorite! This event will held at the American Legion Post 285 in Edgewater.

Family Fitness

Mark your calendars for Nov. 21st it is Family Outreach Fitness Festival at New Smyrna Beach Middle School.

There will be many events to participate in, including athletic events, kickball, blood pressure checks, cancer screenings etc.

There will be plenty of water and medical aid will be on-site provided by the NSB Fire Department. PTSA will be providing food and drink, along with a few other vendors. Please come out and have some fun and show your stuff.

The OM Bar has entertainment all weekend and is now serving food, drop by from some wine, good music and a snack!

Around Town-Upcoming Events

There are a lot of things to do in the coming week around town.....

Biketoberfest of course......runs from October 15th thru the 18th, lots of events are taking place including Charlie Daniels at the Edgewater Ranch on October 17th.

Chili & Chaps will be held Saturday, October 17th on Flagler Ave, 20 Chili Vendors will serve up their best chili recipes, there will be bike parking from Pine St to Atlantic Avenue, prizes will be awarded. It starts at 12noon and all proceeds go to the NSB Athletic Department. If you want more info or to participate in the event contact Gary at The Seahorse Inn. 386-428-8081.

Billfish Invitational


The 11th Annual Billfish Invitational will be held this weekend in New Smyrna Beach. It runs October 8th-11th. You can find the schedule and more information on the website. Brannon Center will be the headquarters for this big fishing event!

Around Town~Things To Do~Part 2

The Garlic has Jazz & Blues seven nights a week

Norwood's has free wine tasting on Friday and Saturday from 5-7pm. They also feature live entertainment on Saturday nights.

OM Bar on Flagler holds wine tastings every Sunday from 4pm-8pm.

Have you been to Merk's lately? Located on the North Causeway, they have been doing some remodeling and the place looks great, it is Customer Appreciation Days and they are offering a 2nd Happy Hour daily from 10pm-2am. Their food is great, lunch specials daily are $5.99.

Next week is the Shrimp and Seafood Fest on Flagler more on that later this week!

Around Town~Weekend Events

The 4th Annual Florida Harmonica Championships are this Sunday at 2pm at the Beachside Tavern. I am not sure what all that entails but I bet it will be interesting.


Farmer's Market on Canal Street Saturday morning from 7:30am-12:30pm.


The American Legion at 619 W. Canal Street is having wings and munchie baskets on Friday nights from 6-9pm. They also serve breakfast every Sunday morning from 8am-11am. The public is welcome.


Odd Fellows Spaghetti Fundraiser is being held on August 15th from noon to 6pm at the Odd Fellows Hall in Pelican Plaza, 2317 South Ridgewood in Edgewater, Fl. Dinner is 5.00 with all proceeds goign to the high school scholarship fund. Take Out is available.

Around Town~Upcoming Events

The Summer Concert Series continues this week in the Gazebo at Riverside Park. Bring your lawn chairs and listen to Thomas Jones Jr. and his smooth jazz. Music starts at 7pm.

August 7th thru August 9th The Little Theatre presents Exit The Body.

The 2nd annual Shrimp and Seafood Festival on Flagler is August 20th.

Fashion Show hosted by Flip Flops Grill & Chill on Sunday, Aug. 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The proceeds of the $25 admission will benefit the ABWA Scholarship Program and Halifax Health Hospice. Around Town~Weekend Events

Late as usual on the weekend events.....partly because there is just not much going on.

Farmers Market on Canal Street is this and every Saturday beginning at 7:30 am until 12:30 pm. Great local vendors, produce, bread, Oak Hill Seafood Co-Op, The Orchid Lady. It is worth the trip and there is always ample parking.

The Om Bar on Flagler Ave has live entertainment Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, they have a full bar and I highly recommend the Margaritas, made with fresh lime juice and nectar, no mix is used here!!

Family Promise of Volusia County will be hosting its Third Annual BBQ Chicken Dinner on Saturday, Aug. 1, on the grounds of Coronado Community United Methodist Church, 201 S. Peninsula Drive from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Knights of Columbus will be preparing the menu, which includes one half of a chicken, baked beans, cole slaw and a roll for $7 per person. Take-outs will be available.

The beach is great, weather will be typical August in Florida weather with afternoon showers.

Easter Weekend Events


This weekend will be a busy one at the beach.
The Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity will be hosting a Casino Night with blackjack, texas hold ‘em, slots, craps this Saturday, April 11 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will be held at Pub 44 in NSB. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the Habitat Thrift Store on 722 S. Dixie Freeway during store hours (Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. To 4 p.m.). Lots of prizes and fun, come on out and support Habitat.
Berean Bible Church is hosting their annual Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 12 at 7 a.m. At the gazebo on Riverside Drive in NSB. There will be an entire hour of congregational singing, special music, and great preaching. Refreshments will be served following the service. Seating is limited, so come early. Please direct any inquiries to Pastor Desmond Strydom at (386) 478-9489.
This Saturday night at 7:30, the Brighthouse Challenge will be held at New Smyrna Speedway. The Easter Bunny will be there and they will have an Easter Egg hunt for the kids.

Around Town-Weekend Events

There is plenty to do at the beach this weekend. The annual Horsin' Around Auction to benefit the Atlantic Center for the Arts is Sunday, April 5 from 11am-4pm. Tickets are 100.00 each it will held at the NSB Municipal Airport.

If that event is too rich for your blood there are many other things to do.

Ce-La-Luna Restaurant in Eddgewater will host Michael T and the "Oldies Revue" on Saturday, April 4th beginning at 6pm.

Coronado Community United Methodist Church will hold their children's Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday April 4th at 10am. This is open to infants to 3rd grade age children. Come to the education building.

The Landshark Surfari Pro Tournament starts today at the Inlet at 9am.

The New Smyrna Beach Board of Realtors is holding a golf tournament to benefit several community programs on Friday, April 3. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. at Hidden Lakes Golf Club, 35 Fairgreen Avenue. The tournament will be in a scramble format and shotgun starts at 1 p.m. There will be food, drinks, and door prizes. Military Appreciation Night

The New Smyrna Beach High School baseball team invites you to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices made by our men and women of the military. Members and veterans of the armed forces will be in attendance. Join the ‘Cudas on Friday, April 3 beginning at 4 p.m. at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. The admission fee will be waived in lieu of donations to the NSBHS baseball program. The National Guard will provide a rock climbing wall, football throw, and basketball shot to entertain all.

Dog Wash

Head on over to Silly Willie's for a Dog Wash to benefit The Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Relay for Life, this will be held on Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be prizes for tiniest, largest, hairiest, and dirtiest dogs. Join the fun at Silly Willie’s at 218 Flagler Avenue, NSB. For more information, call (386) 427-0196.

Around Town-Weekend Events

It is Wednesday and I am looking toward the weekend. Going to be busy at the beach this weekend.

New Smyrna Speedway has the Brighthouse Challenge at 7:30pm on Saturday.

The Farmers Market will be held as usual on Canal Street from 7:30am-12:30pm. Yes, the Orchid Lady is still there...(lots of questions in my email about that.)

Ce-La-Luna Italian Bar & Grill will feature the Sounds of Sinatra with the Marc Monteson Quartet this Saturday night from 6-9pm. They are located at 2976 Ridgewood in Edgewater, in the Edgewater Commons Plaza.

Art Walk on Flagler is Saturday at 10am. Food is the Focus.

Interesting Event on Saturday's at the Southeast Museum of Photography at Daytona State College. It is a FREE event on Saturday, April 18th and Saturday, May 23rd for kids ages 7-11, they run from 11:30am-1pm. They are located at 1200 W International Speedway Blvd call 386-506-4569 for more information.

There are several bands and entertainers playing around town starting today! Check here for more information and a schedule. Chase's, Trader's and Stella's Skyline, Maloney's have acts this week, just to mention a few

Saturday, March 28th the Council on Aging is holding a Trout & Redfish Tournament at Lagoon Bait & Tackle, the cost is 35.00 to enter with a 50/50 payout. They are at 700 Hwy1 in Oak Hill, call for more information. 386-345-0023.

We are expecting above average temperatures, it will be a great weekend for the beach....

Around Town~Weekend Events


Plenty to do around town this weekend. Bike Week starts Friday. The Gallery Group Art Walk on Flagler is this Saturday. You can always check out what is happening on Flager Ave on the Merchants of Flagler Ave website.

Don't forget the weekly Farmer's Market on Canal Street this and every Saturday. If you need produce during the week check out Perrine's Produce it is right next to Banana Republic on Dixie Highway (US 1).

The 50th annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast is this Saturday at the NSB High School Cafeteria.

Saturday, February 28th there will be a FREE Bonfire and Drum Circle at North Beach Community Park from 6pm-8pm. Details at three8six.com.

It is gorgeous today and will be tomorrow and Saturday as well, great beach weather. You can go to Just Weather for updates. Watch for the jelly fish, I was over there this morning and the blue ones that look like plastic bags are all over the beach. So watch your kids don't pick them up.

New Smyrna Weekend Events

This Saturday, February 15 is the Sandy Shoes Run for Scouting. This run supports the Central Council, Boy Scouts of America which provides character education programs to 70,000 youth in Central Florida. On the beach starting and ending at the Flagler Ave. approach. Distances: 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run.
Men's Over 50 Softball League is getting ready to start in New Smyrna Beach, they play Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:45 and 8pm. Call Glen Walker for information 386-527-6741.
Chase's is open with an all new menu, has been quite crowded this week.

Around Town


Welcome to Saturday! Very nice day here in New Smyrna, we got to open the windows for a few brief hours. Some news of note, Danny Veltri made it through Week 2 of Hell's Kitchen.
The Medicine Shop Pharmacy on US 1 was the scene of an almost robbery this morning. Apparently a robber looking for drugs was shot and killed by a security guard this morning around 10:15am. The security guard was hired when someone at the store was tipped off there was going to be a robbery.
The Spirit Cafe held it's grand opening last night on Washington St in New Smyrna. The Friday night coffee house is open Friday nights and admission is free. Hometown News has information on it here.
Not much else happening in our little town. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
