Zen Habits - this is all about living more simply, some of it is not realistic for me right now but it provides an interesting perspective and things to think about.

Smart People - information on all sorts of things from a variety of "smart people"

Florida for Boomers - thought this site was very interesting, it is a guide to retirement and communities all across the state.

Interesting Sites

I wanted to share these websites thought they were very interesting and actually useful.

Need a gift or want to save some money on eating out. Check out Restaurant.com. I was amazed to find several local New Smyrna Restaurants providing discounts as well as several in Daytona Beach.

This one is great. Xtra Xtra. Just put in a zip code and all sort of announcements from newspapers and publications come up. I found several people in my hometown had passed away, gotten married, had babies. It was very interesting.

The Fear Beneath another free advertisement about our "dangerous" waters here in NSB. Also all things predatory, some did not look real but I am not a good judge. I rarely go over the bridge.

The Chum Slick is the very best blog about the reality of the plight of sharks. We love Sharky!

Sunday Stumble

I totally missed the boat on weekend events this week....sorry about that. The week got away from me in a big way! Thanks to those of you that emailed me to see if I was alive....I am just totally wrapped up in baseball, baseball and more baseball.

A couple of community things coming up.

Edgewater Alliance Church is holding a clothing swap on May 16th from 8am-12 noon. Drop off your gently used clothing and small household items at the church office between 10am and 3pm between now and May 13th. If you need more information contact Katie Henry at 386-428-3274.

Senior Self Defense course will be held on May 11, 13, 18 and 20, at the Brannon Center. It will be held weekly for two hours per week, our instructor will be Mr. Richard Schraeder. Bring a friend with you and learn how to protect yourself. For more information, please call Nicole Charbonneau at (386) 424-2280.

Mothers Day is next week so we dedicate our Sunday Stumble to all things Mom:

Flagler Ave Beachcam

Virtual Volusia - this is panoramic views of different areas of Volusia County, not live but still interesting.

Earthcam - this is a very nice site, this link is Florida webcams, but it has webcams from all over the world. The ads are annoying but the views are so nice it is worth it.

Places Around Florida - this site has lots of good information about Florida Beaches, if you get sick of ours pick a different one to visit! It also features different Florida cities, towns and attractions.

New Smyrna Beach Information - this is a nice spot for visitors or anyone planning to visit. A great deal of information.

Want to go fishing in New Smyrna Beach - check here first. All things fishing.

Cape Canaveral National Seashore - right in our backyard, this park has many activities and if you have children check out the Web Rangers in the Kids Zone. Fun, learning activities for children of all ages.

Sunday Stumble

What a gorgeous weekend we had at the beach! My son and I went to church today at Edgewater Alliance. They were talking about a program they had for elementary age children during spring break, from 7am-530pm every day during break they had a Spring Break Camp at the church. They had 74 children attend and the high school age youth volunteered to help. Yes, I said volunteered. They gave up their entire spring break to assist with arts and crafts, games, music and worship for 74 elementary children from our community. Some were children of parishioners, some were children from the community. Get this, it was free. There was no charge to parents for an entire week of fun for their kids and peace of mind knowing where they were during break. I find this to be amazing, not just that the church offered this to the community for free but that they found high school kids, many of them boys to volunteer to make birdhouses, get pies in the face and suffer all sorts of indignities that only elementary age children can dish out. WOW, what a wonderful place!

You can visit with us on Sundays at Edgewater Alliance on S. Ridgewood in Edgewater. Service times are 830, 945 and 1115. They also have great Youth Programs on Wednesday nights.

Women's Self Esteem Blog - I met Dorothy on Twitter. I started reading her blog and could not stop. She says alot of things that we all think but would probably never vocalize. Love it.
