Bad Dog

There are no bad dogs....this is something my father has always said. Only dogs that are not trained by stupid owners. I am lucky enough to have the dog whisperer for a brother so my dogs are trained, they are not smart but they are trained.

I took my daughter to see Marley & Me this long weekend and she loved it, I loved it and we both cried. Her first "real dog" was a rescued Greyhound named Stoney that adopted her more than we adopted him. Two years ago we had to make the decision to end his life peacefully, so she really related to this movie.

Coastal Boxer Rescue - we have a rescued Boxer right now, he is not smart but he is a great pet.

Greyhound Pets of America/Daytona - I cannot say enough about what great pets they are, we got ours from the TN Greyhound Rescue.

Southeast Volusia Humane Society - get a dog at the shelter, they will love you for it.

Almost every breed of dog has a rescue foundation in every state. Check it out and do your research before you invest your money, time and heart into a new pet.

Raccoon Update

I got several emails inquiring as to the fate of my 'coons. After spending 3 long days and night with Fred (the coon hunter) we have successfully been saved from anymore sleepless nights. Our eaves and roof has been secured with steel bars (again by Fred), the attic fumigated and cleaned and the Mama Coon and her two babies have moved on. Should you need coon services or other home improvement I would recommend Fred he did a great job. If you need his number drop me an email.

Florida Wildlife

Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservations Commission has a great website. They offer everything from GIS and Mapping information to Disaster Preparedness. You can look up waterway regulations, boating, fishing, hunting licenses and all sorts of of other things. For a limited time you can obtain a free issue of their Wildlife Magazine. A subscription is 15.00 per year, but go ahead and get a free one and check it out!

Crabby

Are you feeling crabby? Well if so come on over to my house. Yesterday this little fellow was hanging out on my porch, then last night my son went in the garage and he and two of his friends came snapping out.....we chased them out with the broom and they went back to crabby world, not to be confused with Wally World or Obama World...(had to sorry)

So tonight I mowed the lawn, usually a happy task reserved for my brother, but the Red Sox and Yankees interfered so I did it myself. I went back to the garage and found I had six, count 'em with me now six of these little guys hanging out in my garage. I leaped on my broom (no comment dear friends and brothers) and sent them packing.....any crab experts out there that want to check in on why my garage is now crab central???? I know we just had a storm and I live across the street from the ocean but COME ON......

One more note...I have actually gotten HATE MAIL about yesterday's Obama post...I am amazed....check back tomorrow for more happy horseshit about our choices for president!!!

"Mom, We Have A Serious Problem"

It is 12:18 am. Do you know where your hamster is?

My daughter burst into my room at 12:18 this morning to tell me, we had a serious problem. I, of course thought, fire, flood, or some other natural disaster, but no, it was far worse. Apparently, she woke up when she heard a crash, she got up and as she was walking thru the house saw this.



The kitty had knocked down the hamster cage it opened on impact and bless his little rat heart he was running from the cat. He is not fast, he sort of waddles along so she is apparently not the great predator she thinks she is, if she could not catch this fat, old hamster. Anyway, after corraling the cat, locating the hamster and putting everyone in separate rooms we were all able to return to sleep. The moral of the story. Cats don't like rats....or any domestic version of rodents. It is best to keep them separate.

Stupid People Should Not Have Pets

This is my cat. I did not want a cat. I have a dog. Until this weekend I lived in the north beach end of New Smyrna Beach, I had this beautiful black cat hanging around, I had been feeding her a bit and she made herself at home in my garage. Soon two more adult cats and two kittens joined her. They were too scared to come in but I gave them some food outside. Imagine my surprise to find out that one of my neighbors had left the two cats and kittens when she moved out. Just put them outside and drove away. When I moved I took this black cat you see in the picture and she has adapted very well to indoor life, she was declawed prior to be left outside to fend for herself(talk about STUPID). She is a sweet, happy pet. My children and I spent hours trying to catch the mother cat and her kittens so we could take them to a shelter, I never was able to catch the kittens and did not think I could take the mother and leave the kittens.

My question is what kind of person puts their pet outside, packs their house and moves? She never looked back....her name is Kathy and I know she reads this blog, you should have taken them to a shelter, given them some reasonable chance. You should be ashamed of yourself. There are too many people like you Kathy, and make no mistake, there is a special place in hell for you.

Summer Camp

Speaking of Samsula, along with Pepper Picking, there is a great summer camp out there. Marcody Ranch located at 3804 Pioneer Trail is having summer camps each week this summer. My daughter takes lessons there during the school year, and she is attending the camp this week. She has had a fantastic time. They ride, do crafts, play games, have water activities and ride some more. They are learning about the care of horses, grooming, all sorts of horsey things. They have 12-15 openings a week and you can call Hope at the ranch to find out what weeks are still open. If you have a horse crazy girl I highly recommend it, it also runs from 9am-5pm, Monday thru Friday so it is a FULL day of activities.

Hondo?

Help me understand how in the world anything can be this cute.

This is Hondo.

Hondo is a Beagle puppy. Mountain Man has acquired Hondo in the last few days. Apparently Rusty and Tyson were not enough dog for him. He needed to have a HONDO.
